The Alpha Step Awards have been designed to build the confidence of children who may need additional support by providing small stepping stones and should be considered if your child is shy/timid or has disabilities.
The basic water skills and confidence gained through the Alpha Step Awards enable a smooth transition for your child to Stage 1 of the LTS.
The National Plan for Teaching Swimming
The National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) is produced by the Amateur Swimming Association to assist and support the delivery of swimming lessons. The syllabus is currently being implemented in over a 1000 swimming programmes nationwide as wells as being adopted overseas as a model of good practice.
The NPTS is an all inclusive programme which takes the non-swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water and to acquire skills for developing technique in a wide range of water based sports.
The ‘swimmer pathway’ provides more opportunity and variety for swimmers, as well as providing a smooth, progressive structure to take them through the 10 stages. The programme fully encompasses all acquatic disciplines, and incorporates Rookie Lifesaving in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society.
